General Information
The club was founded by Pete Miles and Julie Jones in 1978.
We are an approved and listed Dog Training Club with the Kennel Club of Great Britain.
Aims of the Club
We aim to provide good basic training for puppies encompassing the Kennel Clubs Good Citizens puppy scheme, using methods which are kind and which allow puppies to progress at their own pace. We also welcome older dogs, and encourage young people to come along. We also encourage handlers to carry on to gain their Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates under the Kennel Club scheme.
We provide a happy and relaxed atmosphere where dogs and owners can enjoy a social evening out.
Our experienced trainers keep up to date with modern methods, ensuring that our members always receive the best possible service for both pet and competition training needs.
Notable Personalities
Barrie and Viv Knights were involved in the running of the club for many years. Barrie was Chairman and President from the mid 80's through until ill health forced his retirement. Sadly Barrie died in May 2008.
Viv Knights was a very successful obedience handler and trained several classes at the club. Latterly she provided support for the regular trainers when they were unavailable. Viv writes:
"I have been very fortunate as all my dogs have made it to the top. My ultimate success was winning Crufts Championship Dog Obedience in 1982 with 'Triclen Duke of Great Meadows'
I have been with Knebworth DTC for over 25 years. My main interest is training dogs for the Kennel Club 'Good Citizens' awards."
